food to the community through innovative programs and a retail
café. Please see the new Farmer's

“Bring
the Farmer to Your School” Program |
| |
The “Bring the Farmer to Your School”
Program 2004 has finished a successful 2nd year! Over the past
two years, Sustainable Economic Enterprises of Los Angeles (SEE-LA),
in partnership with the LAUSD Nutrition Network, has been developing
an innovative program that brings farmers to the classroom. Farmers
share their farming experiences, talk to students about how fruits
and vegetables are grown, and discuss the importance of eating
at least five fruits or vegetables daily. The students get to
taste samples of the farmers’ fresh produce, gaining a better
understanding of where their food comes from, and hopefully, developing
a taste and appreciation for fresh fruits and vegetables that
will last their whole lives. Please Choose a Program:
Option 1: Farmer
In The Classroom Program
Option 2: The
Farmer Stand Program

EBT/Food Stamp Project |
| |
SEE-LA is spearheading a countywide effort
to promote the use of EBT cards at farmers’ markets. EBT cards,
also known as the Golden State Advantage Card, replaced paper
food stamps as the method of using food assistance benefits as
of March 2004. 22 certified farmers’ markets in LA County are
currently accepting the food stamp EBT cards using wireless point-of-sale
devices. This project also aims to increase food stamp participation
among eligible families in Los Angeles County, of which 55 percent
are not currently enrolled in the food stamp program. To find
out which markets are accepting EBT click
